Windows drops below 90% market share
It’s interesting to read that Windows for the first time slips below a 90% market share. It is good to see that the free market sometimes does work. Vista really was a bridge too far. I’ve actually got a legal copy of it and when I tell people this they look at me as if I am crazy. Which is a good thing. It’s great that people don’t just swallow everything Microsoft pushes down their throat. In the business it’s the same story. Companies seem hesitant to roll out Vista.
But I actually think Vista is not that bad. It runs great on my, I must admit, rather well ‘endowed’ pc, but it adds nothing that XP misses. XP is in my opinion the best OS Microsoft ever made. It’s pretty stable and fast enough. I still find it unsuitable for anything but mouse operated applications, but still, it’s ok to work with.
XP never did become my daily OS though. Ok, since January I have been using it daily at work, but at home I still use Ubuntu 80% of the time and Vista 20% of the time. That changed when I bought Adobe Lightroom 2. Suddenly I started using Vista more often. But with using it more often came more annoyance. Vista nags too much and it just doesn’t make using a computer feel like you’re doing something advanced. Like you have a powerful tool in your hands…
So I started playing with OS X. It runs Lightroom and it has unix under the hood, what more do you want? I’m not a great fan of Apple as a company. I certainly don’t like its ethics, but I must admit I do like their products. I think I’ll have an apple in less than two months.
